UNIVERSAL CHANNEL LAUNCHED EXCLUSIVELY ON CONN-X TV FOR THE FIRST TIME IN GREECE

The co-operation between OTE (Hellenic Telecommunications Organization) and NBC Universal Global Networks starts on 7th May, as announced today during a press conference. Universal Channel, one of the most popular channels of NBC Universal Global Networks, is being launched for the first time in Greece, exclusively on conn-x TV, OTE’s IPTV platform.

On this occasion, Mr Panos Sarantopoulos, OTE Chief Officer of Residential Customers, mentioned: “This co-operation is a delightful occasion for us, particularly as it contributes significantly to the success of our efforts. Conn-x TV viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy Universal Channel’s programme selection consisting of award winning series and blockbuster movies from distributors like Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox Film Corporation και CBS Paramount. The launch programming line-up that will be viewed on conn-x TV, share a record breaking 200 award nominations in total.

The launch night premieres the blockbuster movie The Day after Tomorrow starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal. Universal Channel on conn-x TV will show a range of world famous TV series, which will be seen for the first time on Greek TV such as the fast paced real life entertainment series Flipping Out, the wickedly funny Nurse Jackie, the hit comedy series My Name is Earl, the critically acclaimed NBC series 30 Rock, the cult series Office, Emmy award winning Malcolm in the Middle, Law & Order, one of the most successful prime time TV brands, the US smash hit series Eureka, etc.

NBC Universal Networks is part of NBC Universal; one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies. It owns and operates several entertainment channels. Collectively, these channels reach more than 130 million households across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia, Latin America and Asia.
Universal Channel will further enrich the content of conn-x TV along with 40 TV channels already available. Apart from the rich television program, viewers can also choose the film they want to watch, when they want to watch it, through the video on demand services, FilmExpress and FilmClub, that conn-x TV offers, without having to wait for the video to download and with no interruptions for commercials.

Conn-x TV is already available in 17 cities in Greece (Athens, Pireus, Thessaloniki, Patra, Larissa, Irakleio, Rodos, Naxos, Kos, Thira, Syros, Xanthi, Kavala, Drama, Serres, Komotini, Alexandroupoli) while gradually, within 2009, will be available in all of the country’s prefecture capitals. The required speed is conn-x at 8 or 24 Mbps.
