Building ties...

For over half a century, Corporate Responsibility (CR) has been a key part of OTE’s culture, with a particular emphasis on accompanying our market presence with societal awareness and contributions. Today the values of Corporate Responsibility constitute a strategic component of OTE’s business strategy, planning, policies and operations. OTE’s objectives primarily target both sustainable development and increased competitiveness, by offering high-quality products, services and customer care, providing ‘combo-packages’, as well as by simultaneously tapping into synergies operating at intra- Group level. Through its “Building Ties” CR program, introduced in 2005, OTE focuses on the marketplace, our own people, the society and the environment, which are important both to the company’s success and its stakeholders, in close alignment with European and international CR standards. We aim to demonstrate OTE’s daily presence as a “responsible citizen” and create a sustainable business with increased competitiveness. Corporate Responsibility values comprise a strategic choice for the company. At the same time, we enrich and readjust our practices according to international standards, having incorporated them to the company business planning and performance. We take an active part in the ongoing broader debate on C.R., as member of international and national bodies, such as the Global Compact and the Hellenic Network for Corporate Social Responsibility. Moreover, we maintain participation as members of these bodies, so as to ensure continuous and well-rounded information on CR developments. We are committed to continuing our work, by supporting concrete efforts that promise definite solutions, and at the same time, seek and ensure transparent assessment of its outcome in all related areas. OTE is one of the first Greek companies to have applied international standards for reporting on Corporate Responsibility, especially the “G3” International Sustainability Reporting Guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). OTE's 2009 CR Report was also one of the first in Greece to apply the AA1000 AccountAbility Principles Standard and develop its approach in terms of its three principles, namely inclusivity, materiality and responsiveness. As a result, the report was also upgraded to GRI G3 B+ rating. In 2010 we have again applied the ‘G3 Guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), including the GRI ‘G3.1’ guidelines regarding diversity and human rights for the indicators on which we report. Since 2008, OTE has been included in the FTSE4Good Index, alongside leading socially responsible companies around the world. In 2010, for a third consecutive year, ΟΤΕ participated in the Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI) evaluation procedure, in cooperation with BITC (Business in the Community), and for the first time received the "gold" distinction, among many other significant Greek companies and multinational enterprises. We intend to continue building on our current strengths and accomplishments, as we strongly believe that when it comes to CR, a company should give back to society nothing but its very best.
Further information and data regarding OTE's approach to Corporate Responsibility, as well as relative activities, can be found in the OTE Corporate Responsibility Reports. Corporate Responsibility activities are also presented on a specific section on the OTE website ( www.ote.gr) , as well as on a micro-site ( www.ote.gr/cr2010/cr2010_en), through the website CR section. The aim is to improving information provision to the public ensuring that the visitor has thorough information, both regarding strategy, as well as individual actions developed by the company through our ‘Building Ties’ programme.
